As many as 120 wrestlers — 40 every in males’s freestyle, Greco Roman and girls sections — have been chosen to be a part of the National teaching camps within the run-up to the Olympics.
The ad-hoc committee working the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on Thursday picked the National medallists in every weight class (together with non-Olympic weights) of the freestyle, Greco Roman and girls’s sections for the camps.
The males’s camp can be held in Sonepat, whereas the ladies’s camp can be at Patiala from February 9 till the Olympic Games.
The panel will resolve on the participation of some elite wrestlers reminiscent of Ravi Dahiya, Bajrang Punia, Deepak Punia, Aman Sehrawat and Antim Panghal, the one Indian to earn an Olympic quota place to this point, after attending to find out about their plans, which can embrace abroad coaching.
The Asian Olympic qualifier can be held from April 19 to 21, whereas the World Olympic qualifier can be from May 9 to 12.
New dates introduced
The postponed National under-15 and under-20 championships can be held on the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Patiala, from February 28 to March 5. The occasion was postponed following the state models’ request to offer them extra time to arrange for the championships.
