24 arrested for assault on doctor after patient’s death in Assam, police to submit ‘strong chargesheet’

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on Wednesday (June 2) that 24 individuals have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a doctor at a medical facility in Hojai district following the death of a COVID-19 affected person there. The police stated that it’ll submit a ‘sturdy chargesheet’ in the case in a brief time period to punish the individuals concerned in the alleged assault on Dr Seuj Kumar Senapati on the Udali Care Centre on Tuesday.

“Twenty-four culprits involved in this barbaric attack have been arrested and the chargesheet will be filed at the earliest. I am personally monitoring this investigation and I promise that justice will be served,” Assam CM Sarma wrote on Twitter.

Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta stated they’re taking the incident very critically as medical doctors are combating the pandemic on the forefront and the assault on Senapati is “like assaulting all the frontline workers”. “And @assampolice would not let that happen… We WILL bring the perpetrators to justice… Let this be known, assaulting frontline worker will not be tolerated… A strong case is being made against them,” he stated in a collection of tweets.

Special DGP (Law and Order) Gyanendra Pratap Singh stated the principle accused individuals and conspirators, together with a lady seen in a video of the incident, have been arrested. “We would submit a strong chargesheet in the shortest possible time and ensure the criminals are brought to justice,” he stated on the microblogging web site.

A video of the assault which went viral on social media confirmed that an individual, apparently trying just like the doctor, was being assaulted by a gaggle of individuals, together with girls. All political events have condemned the incident and requested the federal government to take strict motion towards the culprits.

Meanwhile, the Assam Medical Service Association (AMSA) introduced that their members will maintain demonstrations to protest towards the assault and stated they might boycott all OPD providers on Wednesday throughout Assam. “If next time, any such incident occurs to any health workers, AMSA will immediately go for complete cease work of all services all over the state,” the affiliation stated in an announcement.

The staffers in emergency providers and COVID Centre will put on black badges, and so they demanded enhanced safety in any respect hospitals and healthcare services. “Assam Health Security Force should be started in the line of CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) and AISF (Assam Industrial Security Force). “As initiation of ‘Health Security Force’ will take longer time, we request fast recruitment of non permanent safety personnel for hospitals,” the AMSA stated.

In a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Indian Medical Association termed the assault on Senapati as ‘extraordinarily inhuman’ and sought strict motion towards the culprits instantly. “India needs a comprehensive, uniform & effective law against healthcare violence. We request you to kindly approve an effective & strong act,” it added.
