IMPHAL: Three individuals have been allegedly shot useless and 5 others injured in Manipur’s Thoubal district on Monday night, following which curfew was reimposed within the 5 valley districts of the state, officers mentioned. Gunmen, who’re but to be recognized, arrived in camouflage clothes within the Lilong Chingjao space, and opened fireplace focusing on locals, they mentioned.
While three folks died on the spot, 5 others have been injured. Those injured have been admitted to a hospital, officers mentioned. After the assault, the enraged locals set three four-wheelers on fireplace. It was not instantly clear to whom these vehicles belonged.
Following the recent violence, curfew was reimposed in Thoubal, Imphal East and Imphal West, Kakching and Bishnupur districts, officers mentioned. In a video message, Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the violence, and appealed to the folks, notably the residents of Lilong, for sustaining peace.
“Police are working to arrest those behind the attack. They will be arrested soon and punished as per the law,” he mentioned.
More than 180 folks have been killed and several other hundred injured since ethnic violence broke out in Manipur on May 3 when a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organised within the hill districts to protest in opposition to the bulk Meitei neighborhood’s demand for Scheduled Tribe standing.
Meiteis account for about 53 per cent of Manipur’s inhabitants and reside principally within the Imphal Valley. Tribals — Nagas and Kukis — represent little over 40 per cent and reside within the hill districts.
