Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2021 Full Schedule Announced: It is the battle for new legacies, as Tamil Nadu goes to poll after Election Commission (EC) announced the date on Friday. New political figures emerge to cement their position, shadows of yesteryear leaders, however, still shine bright as names of M Karunanidhi, MGR and Jayalalitha are part of the overall political dispensation in the state.
As per the announcement made by Election Commission, Tamil Nadu Assembly Polls will be held in single phase on April 6. Counting of votes and result announcement will be done on May 2.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced dates for assembly polls in Assam, Kerala, West Bengal, and Puducherry along with Tamil Nadu. The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into effect in Tamil Nadu Nadu following the announcement of dates.
The term for the 234-member Tamil Nadu legislative assembly will come to an end on May 24, 2021.Â

The incumbent Edappadi K. Palaniswami is AIADMK’s Chief Ministerial candidate.
Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder and Tamil actor Kamal Haasan will be seen making an active entry in the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections.
The opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu Thursday held discussions with its ally the Congress on the seat-sharing formula for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The BJP, with which the AIADMK has an alliance at the Centre, had played a key role in 2017 in forming the dual-leadership formula after Panneerselvam fell out with Sasikala, a close confidante of former chief minister Jayalalithaa, over power-sharing following the actor-turned-politician’s demise.
2016 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections
In 2016, AIADMK was able to secure 136 out of 234-seats with a 40.88% vote share. While main rival DMK got 89 of the 178 seats it contested with 31% votes to its name. DMK’s ally Congress had a dismal outing as they were able to get 8 of the 41 seats it contested on.
