Congress MP Santokh Chaudhary passes away, Bharat Jodo Yatra suspended for a day

Congress Member of Parliament Santokh Singh Chaudhary on January 14, 2023 died after he suffered a cardiac arrest.

The 76-year-old Congress MP from Jalandhar was collaborating in Congress chief Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra, or ‘unite India march’, which is at present underway in Punjab.

The celebration suspended the Yatra for a day as a mark of respect for Chaudhary

“The Yatra will resume tomorrow afternoon from Khalsa College Ground, Jalandhar,” AICC common secretary Jairam Ramesh stated on Twitter.

“Due to the unexpected and shocking demise of Santokh Singh Chaudhary, Congress MP from Jalandhar, the press conference of Rahul Gandhi originally scheduled in Jalandhar tomorrow will now be held on 17th January in Hoshiarpur,” he stated in one other tweet.

Mr. Chaudhary was within the march, which began within the morning from Phillaur and reporterdly suffered the cardiac assault when the march was between Phillaur and Goraya cities.

He was rushed to the civil hospital at Phagwara, the place he was declared introduced lifeless.

Leader of Opposition in Punjab Partap Singh Bajwa stated that Mr. Chaudhary was strolling together with one other Congress MP when he collapsed. “Extremely saddened on passing away of Jalandhar MP and my dear friend SS Chaudhary ji. We have lost a gem, his void will be difficult to fill. My heartfelt condolences to his son MLA Vikram Chaudhary, friends and family. May the departed soul rest in peace,” stated Mr. Bajwa in a tweet.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge stated “Deeply shocked and saddened to learn about the untimely passing away of our MP, Shri Santokh Singh Chaudhary. His loss is a great blow to the party and organisation. In this hour of grief, my heart goes out to his family, friends and followers. May his soul rest in peace.”

Expressing his condolence, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in a tweet, stated “I’m deeply saddened by the untimely death of Congress Member of Parliament from Jalandhar, Santokh Singh Chaudhary. May God rest his soul in peace.”
