Thane, Feb 28 (PTI) A 28-year-old man and 5 of his members of the family have been booked for allegedly harassing his spouse and driving her to commit suicide in Maharashtra’s Thane district, police mentioned on Tuesday.
The case in opposition to the six, beneath the Indian Penal Code and Dowry Prohibition Act, got here on a grievance by the girl’s father, mentioned the official.
The couple received married in November 2021. The girl’s father mentioned he gave money and jewelry value almost Rs 33 lakh to her in-laws on the time, however they wished extra dowry, together with a flat, mentioned the official.
The husband even pressured the girl to endure an abortion to place extra stress on her, mentioned the official citing the grievance.
The girl hanged herself on February 24 following which her father approached the police on (*33*), he mentioned.
