One girl was killed, and eight others sustained accidents in an explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Sivanarpuram close to Reddichavadi in the district on Sunday. The sufferer was recognized as B. Mallika, 60, of Puducherry.
Police stated the explosion occurred round 4.15 p.m. on the licensed unit the place 10 individuals, together with 9 ladies, had been working.
A hearth broke out and the country-made crackers saved on the premises exploded. The concrete construction, together with the roof and wall, collapsed. Everything was gutted.
Police stated eight others recognized as Meghala, 31; Sumathi, 41; Brinda, 35; Sakthi, 25; Goshalai and Ambika, 18; Sevvanthi, 19; and Lakshmi, 25; have sustained accidents.
Police sources stated the reason for the explosion was being ascertained.
RDO inquiry
Cuddalore Collector Ok. Balasubramanian stated the unit had a license. An RDO inquiry had been ordered into the accident.
