Rezoana runs to a new National record in the girls’ under-16 400m event


Rezoana Mallick Heena cruised to the under-16 gold with a new mark in the 4th National open 400m championships at LNCPE in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday.

Running in her maiden 400m race, West Bengal’s Rezoana Mallick Heena placed on an astonishing burst of pace to set a new National record in the ladies’ under-16 class in the 4th National Open 400m championships at the LNCPE right here on Monday.

After hitting the entrance at the first curve, the 15-year-old decreased the race to a lap of honour with the relaxation trailing her. Rezoana stopped the clock at 53.22s, to break the mark of 54.57s set by Anjana Thamke at Lucknow in 2012.

Rezoana’s time was higher than the timings returned by girls’s winner Jyothika Sri and under-20 winner Priya Mohan.

Rezoana was assured of breaking the National record as she had routinely gone beneath 53s throughout coaching. “My coach Arjun sir informed me to go all out and I did precisely that in the race. The arduous work has paid off. I’m pleased that I might break the National record right here,’‘ said Rezoana, who also holds the National 300m record.

Andhra Pradesh’s Jyothika Sri upset the favorite Aiswarya Mishra (Maharashtra) to win the girls’s race. Aiswarya led for three-quarters of the race however didn’t have any reply to Jyothika’s superior ending kick. Jyothika caught up with Aiswarya at the 350 mark and accelerated to the end in 53.26s. Aiswarya got here second in 53.49.

Priya Mohan was a runaway winner in the under-20 part.

Favourite V. Muhammed Ajmal strode confidently to win the males’s crown in 46.90s, whereas Tamil Nadu made a clear sweep of medals in the boys’ under-20 class.
