The Tamil Nadu authorities lately revised the quantity of compensation given to victims of custodial demise/torture/rape attributable to police personnel or jail officers and to victims of police firing from ₹5 lakh to ₹7.5 lakh.
The choice adopted the suggestions of the National Human Rights Commission to all of the States to border a coverage for fee of compensation to the victims/authorized heirs of the victims who died in custody and options on the enhancement of compensation.
According to the notification issued by the Public Department, the choice was taken after the suggestions and the options of the NHRC had been thought-about and “the rising of the Consumer Price Index” was taken under consideration. In case of everlasting incapacitation attributable to police personnel/jail officers too, the compensation has been revised from ₹5 lakh to ₹7.5 lakh.

The State authorities has additionally formulated a ‘policy on payment of compensation to the victims of custodial death/torture/rape by police/prison officials and police firings’.
