The All India Council for Technical Education has determined to withdraw the moratorium on beginning new colleges, its chairman T.G.Sitharam mentioned.
Mr. Sitharam mentioned the ban imposed for the previous three years was being eliminated “because of the dichotomy, you see. The gross enrolment ratio is now 26%. We want it to reach 50% by 2030,” he mentioned in response to a query on Anna University’s suggestion to shut down colleges with low go proportion and fewer than 30% admission.
He was responding to questions on the sidelines of a perform close to town on Tuesday. The Council would launch the Approval Process Handbook “within a week to 10 days,” he mentioned.
The Council has put the onus on colleges to work with the {industry} and handhold college students and make them employable, he mentioned. Colleges have been suggested to introduce practising professorships the place {industry} individuals would spend time in colleges. Colleges ought to set aside a spot on campus for industries to facilitate interactions with college students frequently. “A lot of mindset change happens. As of date the AICTE’s internship portal had shut to 1.2 crore registrations. The Council has plans to introduce a placement portal for rural engineering colleges, he mentioned. “We have a lot of work to do. We need to bring changes in placement and in job creation,” Mr. Sitharam added.
The Council will emphasise on college students taking a minor programme of 18 credit in all rising areas in core engineering programmes to get them industry-ready.
Teacher coaching
“We are aware of issues in teacher training. They have to train themselves because today the technology is changing so fast and the teacher becomes a facilitator because of outcome-based education,” he responded to a query on lack of school in rural areas.
Faculty are inspired to take NPTEL and MOOC programs whereas the Council is engaged on addressing college scarcity in rising areas and coaching core engineering college in rising expertise, Mr. Sitharam mentioned.
The Council can be planning programmes to assist girls college who took a break to return again to campus, the official mentioned.
