Daniil Medvedev shook off a mid-match ankle harm to attain the Indian Wells quarter-finals with a gutsy 6-7(5) 7-6(5) 7-5 victory over Alexander Zverev
Daniil Medvedev shook off a second-set fall to beat Alexander Zverev 6-7 (5/7), 7-6 (7/5), 7-5 on Tuesday, the “loopy” victory pushing him into the Indian Wells quarter-finals for the first time.

Zverev, who suffered three torn ankle ligaments at last year’s French Open, looked on in concern, but after the injury was examined and taped by medical staff Medvedev continued and turned the match around.
“It was one of the first times in my life that the physio had taped my ankle, so I decided to give it a try,” Medvedev mentioned. What was shocking was it was a lot simpler to run than stroll. So after I was strolling I used to be limping after which I used to be working effective.”
Medvedev would save all 10 break points he faced in the second set — eight alone before he fell.
He grabbed a 4-1 lead in the tiebreaker, thrilling the crowd with defensive overhead smash and finally closing it out with a crisply angled forehand winner.
He went up an early break in the third and was untroubled on his serve until he squandered a match point as he was broken in the 10th game.
Zverev couldn’t build on that, however, clutching his head in disbelief as he double-faulted on break point in the next game.
Medvedev seized the opening, holding at love to clinch the win after three hours and 17 minutes.
“When the adrenaline goes down, it will be pretty painful, so I am going to probably do a scan to see what it is and if I can continue to play,” Medvedev mentioned.

He’s scheduled to face Twenty eighth-ranked Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Chilean qualifier Cristian Garin.
