Women’s World Championships: IBA Clears Delhi-born Boxer Anjani Teli to Continue Competing for Nepal

Boxer Anjani Teli (52kg) was on Sunday cleared by the International Boxing Association (IBA) to proceed representing Nepal on the ongoing Women’s World Championships right here.

The IBA had launched an investigation after allegations that Teli was ineligible to compete for Nepal.

It was alleged that the flyweight boxer, who was born in New Delhi, may be holding two passports.

The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) in an official assertion mentioned Teli participated by the title of ‘Hemlata Gupta’ within the 2021 National Championships and supplied an Aadhaar card as her proof of id.

However, the world physique has cleared the boxer.

“New Delhi-born boxer Anjani Teli has by no means acquired an Indian passport, nor competed internationally representing India. Hence, it doesn’t violate any articles of the IBA Technical and Competition Rules on this specific case,” the IBA said in statement.

“Eight years ago she received Nepali citizenship, as her parents are originally from the country, therefore, she is fully eligible to represent Nepal at the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi,” it added.

Teli was born in Delhi to Nepali mother and father, who moved to India within the Nineteen Nineties. She did her education type the nationwide capital and likewise received the State Championship which opened the doorways for her to play within the 2021 National Championships.

“But in Delhi her title was Hemlata and thus her Aadhaar and different paperwork had been made by that title,” he said.

He added that her sister had earlier tried to get an Indian passport but her application was rejected.

“She had applied for the India passport in 2020-21 but it was rejected. She competed after showing her Aadhaar card.”

Nepal coach Prachand Sharma mentioned he was not conscious of Teli’s Indian previous and she or he is being dragged into an pointless controversy.

“She’s our citizen, she is going to play for us. We simply received to find out about this (she performed for India). But she is our citizen, now we have introduced her so she is going to play for Nepal.

“Yeh sab bekaar hai. (This controversy is ineffective.) Even if she is Indian then additionally nothing issues, as a result of IBA has her title as a result of she performed Nepal Nationals and certified for this event.
