Gary Lineker won’t current the BBC’s FA Cup protection on Sunday after shedding his voice following his on-screen return.
The former England striker was restored to his presenting position for stay protection of Manchester City’s 6-0 thrashing of Burnley on Saturday, every week after being taken off air in an impartiality row.
Lineker was criticised for evaluating the launch of the UK authorities’s new asylum coverage to the rhetoric of Nazi-era Germany.
However, his removing sparked chaos throughout the BBC’s sporting protection as presenters, pundits and commentators confirmed their backing for Lineker by refusing to work.
A compromise was reached on Monday as the 2 sides mentioned they’d agreed that Lineker would return to screens whereas the company launches an impartial assessment into its social media tips.
Lineker, who’s the BBC’s highest paid presenter, mentioned “it’s nice to be right here” as he fronted stay protection from the Etihad.
But the BBC said on Sunday he would not present Brighton’s quarter-final clash with fourth-tier Grimsby due to illness.
“Due to illness, we’ve got a line-up change for today’s live FA Cup coverage of Brighton v Grimsby on BBC One,” BBC Sport tweeted.
“As viewers may have seen yesterday, Gary Lineker was scuffling with his voice and sadly it has deteriorated in a single day. Alex Scott will probably be internet hosting as an alternative.”
Former England women’s international Scott was one of the presenters who refused to work last weekend in support of Lineker.
