A joyous spirit prevailed within the metropolis on the eve of Ugadi on Tuesday as folks thronged markets and procuring centres to buy festival essentials.
Marketplaces akin to Besant Road, One Town, Kaleswara Rao market, Vastralata and Patamata have been abuzz with exercise proper from Tueday morning as folks flocked there to buy the components of the standard Ugadi pachhadi.
Vendors lined the slim, busy lanes of the markets with sacks of neem flowers, uncooked mangoes, tamarind and jaggery, which comprise the principle parts of the concoction.
Denizens have been seen bargaining with distributors over the steep asking costs for flowers and greens. In some circumstances, the costs doubled in the direction of the top of day. While the value of a uncooked mango was round ₹10 within the morning, it was being bought for ₹20 by night. Same was the case with neem flowers. A small bunch of flowers was bought for ₹15 to ₹20.
Prices of flowers on the Rajiv Gandhi Flower Market went by the roof. The merchants mentioned the costs of some flower varieties have gone up by greater than 25%, whereas costs of some have doubled.
Menawhile, temples and voluntary organisations have lined up a collection of programmes to ring within the Telugu New Year. Panchanga Sravanam is being organised at temples like Kanaka Durga, Uttaradi Mutt, and faculties akin to PB Siddhartha.Â
