Denied poll ticket, Assam BJP minister Sum Ronghang joins Congress

Guwahati: Unhappy with the denial of occasion ticket for the meeting election in Assam, BJP minister Sum Ronghang on Sunday (March 7) joined the opposition occasion, Congress which is prone to discipline him from the Diphu constituency held by him.

The hill areas improvement and mines and minerals minister joined the Congress in presence of AICC common secretary Jitendra Singh and the occasion’s state unit chief Ripun Bora.

“I did not like the way I was denied the ticket. I performed my duties with full dedication. I did not get the ticket due to the conspiracy of certain individuals,” Ronghang informed reporters with out elaborating.

The minister alleged that the BJP capabilities in a “non-transparent manner”.

“I feel that I will not be able to serve my people by staying in the BJP. That is why I have left the party and joined the Congress,” Ronghang mentioned.

Though Bora declined to touch upon whether or not Ronghang can be given a ticket, Congress sources mentioned that his identify is being thought-about for the Diphu seat in Karbi Anglong district. 

Meanwhile, the election to the 126-member Assam Assembly can be held in three phases from April 6 because the state Assembly tenure involves an finish on May 31, 2021. The first section of election for 47 seats can be held on March 27, second section for 39 seats on April 1 and third section for 40 seats on April 6.
