An alert has been issued to apprehend the suspect who was arrested on fees of theft and offences punishable below the Foreigners Act, 1946, and Passport Act, 1950. Special groups mounted vigil at Sri Lankan Tamil refugee camps and settlements throughout the State to search for the escapee, police sources mentioned.

Razak, lodged in Puzhal central jail, was taken to Madurai and produced in a Judicial Magistrate courtroom in reference to a case registered towards him by the South Gate police in 2019. While being escorted again to Chennai in a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation air-conditioned bus by a three-member escort crew, the suspect gave the slip to the police and escaped. The bus had stopped at a restaurant close to Perani for dinner when the incident passed off, the sources mentioned.

A recent case was registered by the Vikravandi police towards Razak, a local of Trincomalee in Sri Lanka, for pushing the escort police personnel whereas boarding the bus and making good his escape. Besides the case pending in Madurai, he was concerned in crimes in Ramanathapuram and Coimbatore.

On data that Razak was within the behavior of staying within the neighborhood of main railway stations to commit crimes, the Government Railway Police have been alerted to maintain a detailed watch in and round railway stations in Chennai, Villupuram, Tiruchi, Coimbatore, Salem, Madurai and Tirunelveli. Razak’s {photograph} was shared to all metropolis/district police, the Coastal Security Group and different law-enforcing companies, the sources added.

Police have been investigating the antecedents of the suspect and his connections with different Sri Lankan nationals already arrested and lodged in prisons/Special Camp in different circumstances.
