An area courtroom in Gujarat convicted Gandhi in a prison defamation case on March 23 and sentenced him to 2 years in jail. The two-year jail time period triggered his disqualification as a Lok Sabha member from the date of the decision.
The notification for Gandhi to vacate the bungalow was marked to varied departments, together with the Directorate of Estates. A senior official mentioned a disqualified Lok Sabha member has to vacate the official bungalow inside a month of shedding his membership.
Sources mentioned Gandhi can write to the Housing Committee in search of an extension, and the panel can take a call relying on the validity of the explanations cited by him.
