The Lok Sabha on Wednesday determined to ship the Forest (Conservation) Amendment Bill, 2023 to a Select Committee as a substitute of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science, know-how, Environment and Forest headed by senior Congress chief Jairam Ramesh. The situation has added gasoline to the already fractious relationship between the ruling occasion and the Opposition.
Protesting the decision, Mr. Ramesh known as it “yet another subversion of Parliament.”
Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Ramesh mentioned, “If the Bill falls fairly and squarely in the subjects covered by the Standing Committee concerned and yet the Bill gets referred to a Select Committee for a blatantly political purpose, why continue as Chairman of the Standing Committee? It is yet another subversion of Parliament.”
