Massive fire breaks out at Eastern Railway office in Kolkata, 9 dead

Kolkata: In a serious fire that broke out on the thirteenth ground of a multi-storeyed constructing in Kolkata’s Strand Road space, at least 9 individuals have been killed.

The fire broke out on Monday(March 9) night and took the lives of 4 fire brigade officers, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Kolkata’s Hare Street police station, a railway official and a safety particular person. 

According to information company PTI, the names of the 4 fire brigade officers that perished in the fire are: Girish Dey, Biman Purokayet, Gaurav Baij, Aniruddha Jana. The ASI has been recognized as Amit Bhawal.

Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal conveyed his condolences to the households of the deceased and stated, “Sincere condolences to the families of the 9 brave deceased including the 4 firefighters, 2 railways personnel & a police ASI who were fighting the fire at the Eastern Railways Strand road office in Kolkata.”

At least 20 fire tenders and two hydraulic ladders have been pressed into service to douse the blaze. Several firefighters additionally fell sick due to the thick smoke in the constructing.

The incident befell at the New Koilaghat constructing on Kolkata’s Strand Road. The constructing housed workplaces of the Railways.

The fire was detected at 6:15 pm and its depth diminished at 9:30 pm. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached the spot round 11 pm.

Former Kolkata Municipal Corporation mayor and chief administrator Firhad Hakim additionally reached the spot to take inventory of the state of affairs. The explanation for the fire at the New Koilaghat constructing is but to be confirmed, police stated.
