Earlier, AIADMK MLA C. Vijayabaskar from Viralimalai constituency, who moved the movement, mentioned that although the project was a dream of many Chief Ministers, it was former Chief Edappadi Ok. Palaniswami who allotted funds and commenced the work.

Quipping that Mr. Vijayabaskar was making an attempt to make it appear as if solely the earlier AIADMK authorities had executed all of the work, Mr. Duraimurugan mentioned the development of the barrage in Mayanur for the project was launched throughout the DMK’s rule in 2009.

CPI (M) MLA M. Chinnadurai, who spoke throughout the movement, appealed to the federal government to expedite the project as it might profit farmers in seven districts of the State.
