The Police have arrested 4 individuals in reference to a mob attack against a youth at Killimangalam, close to Chelakkara, alleging areca nut theft.
The arrested individuals have been recognized as Abbas, 48, a dealer of areca nut, his brother Ibrahim, 41, their relations Althaf, 21, and neighbour Kabeer, 35. There are extra individuals concerned within the case, based on the police.
The incident occurred within the wee hours of Saturday. The sufferer has been recognized as Santhosh, 32, of Vettikkattirii.
As there have been frequent thefts of areca nuts, CCTV cameras had been put in at the home of Abbas, an areca nut wholesale dealer at Chelakkara. It is alleged that once they observed presence of the alleged thief within the wee hours of Saturday, the dealer alerted his neighbours. They allegedly tied up and manhandled Santhosh. The police have recovered CCTV visuals of the attack.
Santhosh, who was injured critically within the attack, is present process therapy in Thrissur Medical College Hospital. According to the native residents, Santhosh received head harm when he fell from a compound wall.
