Stock market closed today on account of Mahashivratri

New Delhi: Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) of India remained closed on Thursday on account of Mahashivaratri, the Hindu pageant celebrated yearly in honour of Lord Shiva. There was no buying and selling in cash and bond markets in addition to wholesale commodity markets.

Extending its good points for the third straight session, fairness benchmark Sensex jumped over 254 factors on Wednesday monitoring good points in pharma, IT and auto shares amid largely optimistic cues.

The 30-share BSE index ended 254.03 factors or 0.50 per cent greater at 51,279.51, and the broader NSE Nifty rose 76.40 factors or 0.51 per cent to fifteen,174.80.

Bajaj Finance was the highest gainer within the Sensex pack, rising round 2 per cent, adopted by Sun Pharma, Tech Mahindra, Axis Bank, Bajaj Auto and Infosys. On the opposite hand, ONGC, Kotak Bank, ITC, HDFC Bank and PowerGrid had been among the many laggards.

Meanwhile, Asian shares prolonged their rebound from a two-month low on Thursday. An index of regional shares excluding Japan rose 0.7%, led by a 1.7% surge in South Korea`s Kospi, and was on observe for its first three-day advance in three weeks. China`s Shanghai Composite rallied 1.6%, whereas Japan`s Nikkei 225 gained 0.5%, a Reuters report mentioned.
