Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian on Wednesday inaugurated the development of contemporary coastal roads within the district as a part of a Harbour Engineering division mission. He stated that the coastal road enchancment initiatives are a part of steps to enhance primary infrastructure within the coastal areas, which can result in higher connectivity and ease of journey.
The earlier Left Democratic Front (LDF) authorities had accorded administrative sanction for the development of 1,792 coastal roads at a complete value of ₹783 crore, out of which 1,551 roads have already been accomplished. Under the present authorities, 307 roads have been sanctioned at a complete value of ₹162.75 crore, out of which 100 have already been accomplished, whereas 104 others are in numerous phases of completion.
The roads within the district which are being revamped below the mission embrace these within the Chirayinkeezh, Attingal and Varkala constituencies.
