A 60-year-old man accused of sending a letter with dying threats to Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Kamal Nath amid the Bharat Jodo Yatra in November final 12 months was arrested on Thursday below the stringent National Security Act from Indore in Madhya Pradesh, a police official mentioned.
Police had zeroed in on Dayasingh alias Aishilal Jham for the letter, which was acquired at a sweetmeat store in June Indore space, and had dying threats for Gandhi and Nath within the background of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
The letter was acquired when the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra, which started in Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu in September final 12 months, entered Indore on November 27 and moved into neighbouring Ujjain district the subsequent day.
Jham was held on a tip off from the railway station right here simply as he was about to flee by practice, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Nimish Agrawal instructed PTI.
“The district administration had issued an order that Jham be jailed below the NSA. It is just not clear why he despatched this letter. An in depth probe is underway,” Agrawal said.
Another police official said Jham seems to have “eccentric tendencies”.
Jham’s alleged letter had mentioned Gandhi and Nath could be killed and large bomb blasts would happen in Indore whereas the Bharat Jodo Yatra was passing by means of MP’s industrial capital.
