Viral Video: Punjab Cop Slaps Woman Farmer Protesting Against Land Acquisition


A Punjab Police officer has been caught on digital camera slapping a middle-aged girl farmer at a village in Gurdaspur district, the video of which has gone viral on social media. As per studies, the farmers have been protesting towards land acquisition for a Bharatmala mission, which includes the development of highways, within the space. Sharing the video on Twitter, BJP chief Jaiveer Shergill mentioned, “Shameful act of slapping a women farmer by Punjab Police official in a village in Gurdaspur. @PunjabPoliceInd must take strict action against this individual.”

The alleged manhandling of the girl has sparked statewide protests by the farmers towards the acquisition of land for the Bharatmala mission. Hundreds of activists of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC) squatted on railway tracks at a number of cities and blocked rail visitors over insufficient compensation for the land acquired for the mission.

KMSC spokesperson Gurbachan Singh Chabba mentioned the farmers have been protesting over the compensation challenge in reference to acquisition of land.
