Will Indian Railways be privatised? Here’s what Piyush Goyal said in Lok Sabha

Railways Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday asserted that Indian Railways won’t ever be privatised however said personal funding ought to be inspired for extra environment friendly functioning. Replying to a dialogue on Demands for Grants for Railways in the Lok Sabha, Goyal said there was no demise of any passenger in rail accidents in previous two years and the railways has been placing huge deal with passenger security.

The Lok Sabha later handed the Demands for Grants for Railways for 2021-22.

Goyal said the nation can progress in the direction of excessive progress and create extra employment alternatives solely when the private and non-private sectors work collectively.

“Indian Railways will never be privatised. It is a property of every Indian and will remain so,” the minister said, including that it’s going to stay with Government of India.

He said they had been working to creating Indian Railways the “engine of growth”. The minister additionally sought cooperation of state governments for land acquisition for quicker implementation of rail initiatives.

“If Maharashtra gives support and makes available land in Bandra Kurla for terminal then high-speed bullet train using Japanese technology will come into India. Today 95 per cent land has been acquired in Gujarat and land has also been acquired in Daman and Diu. However, in Maharashtra we have acquired 24 per cent. If we can acquire land in Maharashtra, then we can implement the project at a faster pace,” Goyal added.

He said the federal government is focusing on full electrification of Indian Railways by December 2023 and this 12 months 5,500 km monitor goes to be electrified.

Goyal said the Modi authorities has hiked funding in railways to Rs 2.15 lakh crore in 2021-22 fiscal, from Rs 1.5 lakh crore in 2019-20 fiscal.
