The Union Cabinet on Tuesday gave a nod to an extra subsidy of Rs 200 per LPG cylinder under the Ujjwala scheme. With this, the entire subsidy can be Rs 400 per cylinder for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries.
A 14.2-kg LPG cylinder prices Rs 1,103 in New Delhi presently. It will price Rs 903 from Wednesday. Meanwhile, the value can be Rs 703 for Ujjwala beneficiaries after the newest subsidy.
Addressing a press briefing, Union Minister Anurag Thakur stated that the Prime Minister has determined Rs 200 discount within the value of domestic LPG cylinders for all customers. “This is a gift from PM Narendra Modi, to the women of the country, during the occasion of Raksha Bandhan,” Thakur added. Under the Ujjwala scheme, 75 lakh girls will get a free fuel connection on the event of Rakhi and Onam, he added.
Beneficiaries of Ujjwala scheme
At current, there are 9.6 crore beneficiaries of the scheme. According to reviews, India depends on imports for 60 per cent of its pure fuel necessities. Thakur additional stated that the Modi authorities has initiated a number of schemes for the event of girls, together with pucca homes, bathrooms, further foodgrains and Direct Benefit transfers throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
