New Zealand will lean on the experience of senior players to tackle the “threat” posed by a rampant India in the World Cup semifinal in Mumbai on November 15, says opening batter Devon Conway.
New Zealand, who completed fourth in the factors desk after the 45-match league spherical, have a dominant report in opposition to India in the knockout stage of ICC occasions.
The Blackcaps beat them in the semifinal conflict of the 2019 version and in the ultimate of the World Test Championship in 2021.
“We all understand how good India are. They are carrying so much of momentum (and) they’ve a powerful squad,” Conway shared his ideas in a video shared by New Zealand Cricket (NZC).
“But we are looking forward to that challenge. It is exciting for us to play against the host nation in the semifinal. We know they are going to be a threat, but we are looking forward to that challenge,” he added.
“We can acknowledge this is another special occasion for us. We are fortunate enough to have a lot of experience in our camp — guys who have been in these situations before. We can lean on those guys and it is very exciting as I can say,” the opening batter added.
New Zealand have misplaced 4 out of their final 5 video games however the Kiwis are targeted on making it to the ultimate.
“It is one of our targets to be in the World Cup ultimate. It is sweet to be one step nearer to that aim, everybody could be very excited. We’ve been taking part in some good cricket. For us, it is about persevering with to do what we do. The relaxation will take care of itself,” he added.
Conway’s form will be in focus since the left-handed batter is yet to make a fifty following his fireworks in the opening game where he scored an unbeaten 152 against England.
He said, “It has been very thrilling. With it being my first ODI World Cup, there have been rather a lot of challenges in a unique format. I’ve actually totally loved my time right here with the fellows. We have performed some actually good cricket. It is thrilling to be in this place.” The young Rachin Ravindra is No 3 in the list of highest run-getters in the World Cup with 565 runs in nine matches at 70.62 including three centuries and two fifties.
Calling him a ‘popular young man in the team’, Conway hoped that his opening partner is able to build on the success.
“It has been improbable for Rachin. We all understand how good a participant he’s. For him to rise up in a world occasion like that is spectacular,” he mentioned.
“A lot of credit goes to him for the performances that he has put in and we hope that he continues to do so down the line for us. He is a very popular young man in the team (and) he has received quite a lot of attention, externally as well,” he added.
