Delhi: Residents of Harijan Basti attacked by mob
Some residents of the Harijan Basti in Delhi had been allegedly attacked by a mob after a 22-year-old man of the locality married a lady from one other neighborhood, police stated on Sunday. Police personnel have been deployed within the southeast Delhi locality to thwart any untoward incident.
On Saturday night time, 15 to twenty males entered the locality and, in keeping with CCTV digital camera footage shared on social media, they broke flower pots, threw stones on homes, broken autos, and tried to interrupt into homes, police stated.
Three to 4 residents suffered minor accidents after they had been allegedly attacked, they stated.
Police stated that the lady’s relations had been in opposition to her relationship with the person, and offended about she getting married to him.
Following the incident, 4 males, together with the lady’s brother, have been arrested, they stated, including that on Saturday night time, the person, his spouse and his relations weren’t current at Harijan Basti.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) R P Meena stated, “Senior officers visited the spot and found that the woman had married against her parents wishes. The woman’s family members were involved in the incident.”
Though police personnel have been deployed on the locality, residents alleged that they nonetheless felt unsafe as members of the mob had been nonetheless at massive.
The couple acquired married on March 16 and a lacking individual report was filed by the lady’s household on the Sunlight Colony police station on Saturday, police stated.
The man and the lady had been known as to the police station. The lady had given her consent to the marriage and after verification of paperwork and particulars, they had been allowed to go away, a police officer stated.
“We also interacted with families of both the parties. But the woman’s brother was upset with the wedding. On Saturday night, he along with others went to the man’s locality and created a ruckus. But the man’s family nor he and his wife were there,” he stated.
The man’s mom informed reporters that the lady’s relations had threatened them of dire penalties.
“My son married a girl from another community. They (woman’s family members) were against their relationship. They abused us and said they will not allow us to stay here. We were called to the police station on Saturday,” she stated.
She stated that her daughter-in-law was pleased with the wedding. “However, after we returned from the police station, we got to know that they had vandalised property at Harijan Basti. We are all scared as they have threatened us of dire consequences,” she alleged.
Satbir, a resident of the locality, informed reporters that he was inside his home when round 10.45 pm on Saturday, a number of males entered the world.
“They even damaged vehicles. They banged on the doors in an attempt to break them. They carried lathis and even attacked a few people from our locality.We are scared and need police protection,” he stated.
Another resident stated she was standing outdoors her home when the mob tried to assault her youngsters.
She alleged that her daughter was along with her and the boys tried to seize her.Â
