COLLEGE PARK, Md.: Allie Kubek scored 23 factors off the bench, Shyanne Sellers added 19 and No. 20 Maryland held on for an 83-81 win over Syracuse on Sunday.
Alaina Rice hit a 3-pointer for the Orange to make it a two-level sport with 23 seconds to go then Kyra Wood pressured a turnover with 10 seconds remaining. But Syracuse couldn’t get a take a look at the basket and Bri McDaniel knocked it away as time expired.
McDaniel had 12 factors, 5 assists and three steals off the bench for the Terrapins (2-2), who misplaced their earlier two video games to South Carolina and UConn. Lavendar Briggs had 10 factors. Sellers and Kubek each had eight rebounds and Sellers had 5 steals.
Georgia Woolley scored 21 factors with eight rebounds for the Orange (3-1). Dyaisha Fair had 14 factors, 5 assists and three steals and Rice had 13 factors.
There have been seven ties and 12 lead adjustments within the first half that ended with Syracuse, led by Woolley’s 11 factors, on prime 38-35.
The Terrapins shot 32%, resulting from a 4-for-20 second quarter and the Orange had runs of 9 and 7 factors.
The again-and-forth continued within the third quarter with the Orange taking a 62-61 lead into the fourth.
Early within the last quarter McDaniel had 4 factors in an 8-0 that put the Terrapins up for good, 71-64 with 6:15 to play. There have been 12 ties and 21 lead adjustments for the sport and neither workforce led by greater than eight.
The Terrapins play No. 24 Washington State in Cancun, Mexico, on Thursday. Syracuse performs Northern Iowa in Las Vegas on Friday.
