Govt to Enable Citizens to File FIR Against Social Media Firms for IT Rule Violation – News18

“From today onwards there is zero tolerance for violation of IT rules,” Chandrasekhar mentioned

The authorities will help residents in submitting FIR towards social media platforms for violation of IT guidelines in case they’re aggrieved from objectionable content material like deep fakes. Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar mentioned the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) will develop a platform on which customers can notify about IT rule violation by social media platforms.

“Meity will assist users to very easily notify it about violation of IT rules and assist them in filing FIRs,” the minister mentioned. He was talking to the media after a gathering with social media platforms.

“From today onwards there is zero tolerance for violation of IT rules,” Chandrasekhar mentioned.

The FIR shall be registered towards the middleman and in the event that they disclose the small print from the place the content material has originated then the FIR shall be filed towards the entity that has posted the content material, the minister mentioned. He mentioned that social media platforms have been given seven days time to align their phrases of use, as per the IT guidelines.
