Four Odisha workers trapped within the Uttarakhand tunnel obtained Rs 2 lakh each from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik as compensation. The workers got a grand welcome at Biju Patnaik International Airport by the state authorities.
The four workers together with their members of the family and accompanied by Labour Minister Sarada Prasad Nayak reached Patnaik’s residence the place the chief minister heard the ordeal of each of them. While lauding the endurance and survival instincts of the workers, Patnaik mentioned, “Your struggle will remain an inspiration for others who face difficulties in life. You are true heroes of society.”
Five Odisha workers have been among the many 41 workers trapped within the Silkyara tunnel on the Brahmakhal-Yamunotri nationwide freeway in Uttarakhand for 17 days earlier than being rescued on November 28. The 5 workers are Raju Nayak, Dhiren Nayak and Bisweswar Nayak from Mayurbhanj district, Bhagwan Batra from Nabarangpur and Tapan Mandal from Bhadrak district. Tapan stayed in Delhi whereas four others returned to Odisha.
“On the direction of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, two labour department officials from Odisha rushed to the site a day after the incident. I was camping in Uttarakhand for the last eight days,” mentioned the labour minister.Â
As many as 41 workers from 9 states have been trapped within the tunnel. While the members of the family of the workers from different states reached the spot promoting their jewelry and different valuables, the Odisha authorities took the members of the family of the 5 workers to the location to provide ethical assist to the trapped workers, he mentioned. Meanwhile, the members of the family of the workers are eagerly ready of their native villages to see their family members at their properties.
