Violence erupted within the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) premises as inmates of the Birla and Lal Bahadur Shastri hostels attacked each other with brickbats, following a conflict over enjoying Holi on the campus. The incident happened late Tuesday and a heavy deployment of the police power has been made on the campus.
BHU chief proctor Prof Anand Chaudhary stated that a lot of college students have began leaving their hostel rooms in view of the unfold of Covid-19 in lots of hostels on campus and in addition in view of the competition of Holi which is on March 29.
Students current in Birla and LBS hostels have been enjoying colors on the hostel street between the buildings of two hostels when some dispute occurred between them and so they clashed.
Soon the state of affairs deteriorated. Some inmates of the Birla hostel climbed up onto the terrace of the hostel and have been pelting stones from there.
SP City Vikas Chandra Tripathi stated that on being alerted by the BHU administration, the police power was rushed to the campus. Inmates of each hostels have been despatched inside their rooms.
The officers of college administration, hostels, proctorial board and police spoke to the scholars of each teams and satisfied them to return to their hostel rooms.
The state of affairs stays tense however beneath management, officers stated.
