ULFA (Independent) on Friday (December 15) claimed responsibility for the blast that befell near the gate of the army station in Assam’s Jorhat district. The ‘delicate blast’ had occurred on Thursday evening in a dustbin near the army gate in the city’s Lichubari space, a defence spokesperson stated.
The bomb consultants reached the spot and ascertained the explosives used in the blast, the spokesperson added. There was no casualty or harm reported because of the blast. This was the third such incident near curity institutions after Tinsukia and Sivasagar since November 22.
A large search operation has been launched in the district together with adjoining areas of Jorhat to arrest the culprits. Security has been tightened and patrolling intensified throughout Upper Assam districts.
ULFA(I) claims responsibility
In a press release, the ULFA(I) claimed responsibility for the blast and stated that the indigenous people had no trigger to panic because the outfit just isn’t in opposition to them however are finishing up the blasts because of the alleged efforts by the Director General of Police GP Singh to ascertain the outfit’s demand as a “law and order problem and not a political issue”.
The DGP or the Assam Police is but to reply to ULFA(I)’s allegation.
Previous such incidents
On Sunday, ULFA(I) had “claimed responsibility for the two recent blasts in Tinsukia and Sivasagar”, carried out in response to the “’arrogance” of Singh.
A grenade blast befell near an army camp at Dirak in Tinsukia on November 22 following which one individual was arrested however police didn’t affirm the main points of the sound of an explosion heard near a CRPF camp on December 9.
Following ULFA’s earlier assertion, the DGP had posted on ‘X’ that each personnel of Assam Police, Army & CAPF take oath below the National Flag to guard the integrity and sovereignty of the nation.
“We are committed to wipe out the remnants of terrorism that impedes growth of our state. And for that, if we have to sacrifice our life, we shall not hesitate, nor shall we waver from our determination to use full might of law against those who stand in path of our state’s growth, progress and development”, he stated.
