Manipur violence: 3 people shot dead, five injured in Thoubal, curfew reimposed in five valley districts

Violence-hit Manipur on the primary day of the 12 months witnessed a contemporary spherical of assaults on civilians in which no less than three individuals died. According to the officers, three individuals have been allegedly shot useless and five others injured in Manipur’s Thoubal district this night. The contemporary firing incident prompted authorities to reimpose curfew in the five valley districts of the state. 

Gunmen, who’re but to be recognized, arrived in camouflage clothes in the Lilong Chingjao space, and opened hearth focusing on locals, they stated.

The officers stated five individuals who have been injured in the assault have been admitted to a hospital. 

After the assault, the enraged locals set three four-wheelers on hearth. It was not instantly clear to whom these vehicles belonged. 

Curfew returns to valley districts

Following the contemporary violence, curfew was reimposed in Thoubal, Imphal East and Imphal West, Kakching and Bishnupur districts, officers stated.

In a video message, Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the violence, and appealed to the people, notably the residents of Lilong, for sustaining peace.

“Police are working to arrest those behind the attack. They will be arrested soon and punished as per the law,” he stated.

The northeast state has been witnessing an unprecedented collection of ethnic violence between two groups- the bulk Meitei group and Kukis. The first main conflict passed off on May 3 which triggered a lot of violent assaults in which over 180 people have been killed and hundreds displaced.

Meiteis account for about 53 per cent of Manipur’s inhabitants and stay principally in the Imphal Valley. Tribals — Nagas and Kukis — represent little over 40 per cent and reside in the hill districts.
