Reiterating that the Opposition’s I.N.D.I.A bloc is supposed for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and never for Assembly polls in any state, Congress on Friday (February 2) asserted that the grouping of 27 events nonetheless exists and can contest the upcoming polls collectively. The alliance, which earlier consisted of 28 events, was left with 27 after Nitish Kumar-led JDU joined the BJP-led NDA final month. Congress normal secretary Jairam Ramesh claimed that Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, being led by Rahul Gandhi, will show to be very useful for the celebration within the normal elections, although it’s a political programme and never an election marketing campaign.

“INDIA alliance is for the general elections and not for assembly polls of West Bengal or Maharashtra or any other state,” he stated.

Alliance solely in Maharashtra

The Congress chief stated that although in Maharashtra, the Assembly elections shall be contested collectively by Congress, NCP, and Shiv Sena UBT, in different state elections there shall be no alliance of I.N.D.I.A bloc events.

“For Lok Sabha, the INDIA alliance of 27 parties is there and will fight together,” he stated, addressing a press convention at Rampurhat in West Bengal’s Birbhum district.

Jairam stated that Congress is the one celebration within the nation which has “never supported the BJP, either directly or indirectly”.

The Opposition’s alliance has been made aiming to defeat the ideology of RSS and BJP, he pressured.

Constitution beneath risk: Jairam

He claimed that the nation’s Constitution and democracy are beneath risk and cited the need to defeat the BJP with a view to save them.

“This is a very important yatra as new energy and strength have been infused in the Congress organisation. We firmly believe that this Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will be very beneficial in the context of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections,” he stated.

He added that Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly stated that this Yatra is being held from a political perspective and never with a watch on the elections.

“We take a look at it as a battle of ideologies,” he stated, claiming that the Yatra, which began from ethnic strife-torn Manipur and is scheduled to finish in Maharashtra on March 20 after traversing a number of states, was receiving big response from individuals of all walks of life.
