Govt Allows Onion Exports to Bangladesh, Mauritius, Bahrain, Bhutan – News18

Govt has allowed export of fifty,000 tonnes of onion to Bangladesh, 1,200 tonnes to Mauritius, 3,000 tonnes of Bahrain and 560 tonnes to Bhutan with rapid impact, Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh tells PTI

The authorities on Thursday permitted merchants to export 54,760 tonnes of onion to Bangladesh, Mauritius, Bahrain and Bhutan until March 31, in accordance to a PTI report.

“We have allowed export of 50,000 tonnes of onion to Bangladesh, 1,200 tonnes to Mauritius, 3,000 tonnes of Bahrain and 560 tonnes to Bhutan with immediate effect,” Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh instructed PTI.

Traders are allowed to export this amount until March 31. The modalities are being labored out, he mentioned. Singh mentioned the choice has been taken following a advice from the exterior affairs ministry.

Currently, there’s a ban on onion exports until March 31. The ban was imposed on December 8, 2023, so as to increase the home provide and test value rise.

The ban was imposed after the onion costs doubled in October. In the nationwide capital, the costs had began inching up from October 25 when the charges have been at Rs 40 per kg, which doubled to Rs 80 per kg on October 29.
