A 55-year-old inspector was arrested on Monday after a businessman was allegedly robbed of Rs 2 crore by six individuals posing as police personnel in Maharashtra’s Navi Mumbai township, officers mentioned.
The incident befell on March 29 when the businessman was travelling from his residence at Ghatkopar in neighbouring Mumbai to Turbhe MIDC in Navi Mumbai.
The businessman was intercepted by six unidentified individuals, posing as Mumbai police personnel, close to the Palm Beach Road in Vashi space. They threatened him, claiming to have obtained complaints about him possessing a big sum of cash, a police launch mentioned.
They allegedly demanded Rs 2 crore from the businessman to avoid wasting him from authorized motion and subsequently took him to a flat in Vashi, the place they continued to intimidate him earlier than absconding with the cash, the discharge mentioned.
