The West Bengal authorities has taken its battle to the Supreme Court, contesting the Calcutta High Court’s directive for a complete CBI investigation into the Sandeshkhali land grabbing and sexual assault allegations. In a major blow to the Mamata Banerjee-led authorities, the Calcutta High Court, in its April 10 ruling, mandated a radical CBI probe, with the courtroom overseeing the investigation.
The state authorities, in its Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed with the Supreme Court, contends that the HC order disregards the continued state police investigation and provides priority to political voices, doubtlessly biasing the inquiry.
Following the Calcutta HC’s orders, the CBI registered three FIRs associated to incidents on January 5, together with assaults on ED officers and allegations towards them by the guard of suspended TMC chief Sheikh.
