We have to move on: Owner of Srinagar’s Krishna Dhaba as eatery reopens months after militant attack

“Life cannot stop, we have to move on,” mentioned Ramesh Mehra, the proprietor of common meals joint Krishna Dhaba in Srinagar, on Tuesday as he returned to work practically two months after his son was shot lifeless by militants. Mehra’s world got here crashing down on February 17 when his son, Akash, was shot at by militants from a detailed vary. Known for serving vegetarian meals and equally common amongst locals and vacationers, Krishna Dhaba had been closed since February 17.

As Mehra returned to work alone on Tuesday, he was welcomed by different enterprise house owners.

Asked if it feels protected to resume enterprise in Kashmir, Mehra instructed PTI, “We have always felt safe here… Such things happen here with other people too.”

On whether or not the thought of leaving Kashmir crossed his thoughts throughout the two months because the killing of his son, he mentioned, “We were born here and have lived here all our life. Where else will we go?”

Krishna Dhaba is situated in Durganag, a high-security space of town. Several high-profile installations just like the workplace of UN Military Observers Group for India and Pakistan and the residence of the Jammu and Kashmir chief justice are situated inside 200 metres of the meals joint.

Police had arrested three individuals in reference to Akash’s killing, which drew widespread condemnation from political events and civil society.
