1.97 lakh acknowledged construction workers get relief from Delhi govt

Authorities in Delhi have thus far disbursed Rs 5,000 every as a relief to 1.97 lakh construction workers in view of coronavirus-induced lockdown within the metropolis, an official mentioned on Monday. It comes after Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal directed officers involved to take the steps for the welfare of migrant workers in view of the lockdown imposed on the evening of April 16.

On Sunday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had introduced an extension of the continuing lockdown in Delhi for one more week, saying the severity of COVID-19 is unabated and the positivity fee has been as excessive as 36 p.c in the previous couple of days.

The lockdown imposed on April 19 evening will now proceed until 5 am on May 3. Before the extension, it was scheduled to finish at 5 am on April 26.
