Chennai: The Supreme Court on Tuesday gave approval to Vedanta to function the oxygen manufacturing unit at its Sterlite copper plant in Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu.
“The plant shall be operated & only produce oxygen & for no other purpose,” says Justice DY Chandrachud.
Accoridng to ANI, Supreme Court on Tuesday began listening to suo motu case of oxygen scarcity & different points associated to administration of Covid-19 pandemic. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed SC, “Matter is being treated at the highest executive level & the state machinery. PM is dealing with the issue.”
“What is your national plan to deal with the crisis? Is vaccination main option to deal with it,” asks Justice S Ravindra Bhat.
“We are handling the situation very carefully,” Mehta replied.
Supreme Court observes, “At the time of national crisis, this court cannot remain a mute spectator. We intend to play a complimentary role to HCs (high courts). HCs have a valuable role to play.”
