Johnson has confronted repeated questions in current days over the funding of the refurbishment, which ministers stated he had paid for.

LONDON: Britain’s electoral fee stated on Wednesday it was glad that there have been grounds to suspect that an offence may need occurred over Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s refurbishment of his condominium in Downing Street.
Johnson has confronted repeated questions in current days over the funding of the refurbishment, which ministers stated he had paid for. However, it’s unclear when he paid, with media stories that his Conservative Party may need initially offered a mortgage.
“We at the moment are glad that there are affordable grounds to suspect that an offence or offences could have occurred,” said the commission, the independent body which oversees elections and regulates political finance.
“We will therefore continue this work as a formal investigation to establish whether this is the case.”
It stated it will present no additional remark till its investigation was full.
“The investigation will decide whether or not any transactions referring to the works at 11 Downing Street fall inside the regime regulated by the fee and whether or not such funding was reported as required,” the statement said.
