An illegal mining racket was unearthed in Amritsar’s Kassowal village in which two individuals have been arrested, and SHO was suspended.

Amritsar (Rural) Police have unearthed an illegal sand mining racket close to Kassowal village right here in which two individuals have been arrested in this connection whereas the SHO of the world police station has been suspended, officers stated on Sunday.

Police seized a heavy earthmoving machine, 9 vehicles, 4 tractor-trolleys and another gear from the location on Saturday.

The SHO of Ramdas police station has been suspended for alleged negligence in successfully curbing illegal mining, police stated.

On the premise of particular info, Amritsar (Rural) police carried out a raid and located that large-scale illegal mining was occurring alongside the banks of Ravi river in Kassowal village of Ramdas.

The raids unearthed a scientific and large-scale illegal mining operation being carried out on the banks of the river, police stated.
“Two accused – Ranjit Singh of Gurdaspur and Daljit Singh of Bathinda – were arrested from the spot,” a senior police official stated.

“After the raid, we noticed serious procedural compliance failures at the site. There was absence of any physical demarcation at the site, a condition that is set down for mining operations. Further, no documents or government slips were produced by the contractor or their workers at the site”, stated SSP Amritsar (Rural) Dhruv Dahiya.

During investigation of the location by the raiding staff, massive mounds of sand have been discovered on the river banks, in addition to in the close by hinterland space. Police have registered a case beneath related provisions of the Indian Penal Code, Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act and the National Green Tribunal Act on the Ramdas police station and additional investigations are beneath progress.
