Under Startup India programme 50,000 initiatives have been registered in 5 years

Under the Centre’s formidable Startup India programme, 50,000 startups throughout the nation have been recognised until date by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) with Delhi and Karnataka main with largest variety of such initiatives.

Sectors like meals processing, product growth, utility growth and IT consulting are a few of the most important sectors which have seen most variety of startups getting registered.

Interestingly, the management groups of 45 per cent startups have girls entrepreneurs, official sources mentioned.

Other states which have the biggest variety of startups are Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.

As per DPIIT figures that are up to date until June 3, 2021, out of the 50,000 startups, 19,896 have been recognised since April 1, 2020 alone.

Since the inception of the Startup India initiative in January 2016, recognised startups have unfold throughout 623 districts. Each state and union territory has no less than one startup. 

Official sources mentioned that it took solely 180 days so as to add the final 10,000 startups, as in comparison with 808 days for the primary 10,000 at first of the initiative. 

A complete of 743 startups had been recognised in 2016-2017, which was the primary 12 months of the initiative, and this has now elevated exponentially to over 16,000 startups being recognised within the 12 months 2020-2021.

An announcement issued by the division mentioned that “the recognised startups have contributed significantly to job creation, with 5,49,842 jobs reported by 48,093 startups with an average number of 11 employees per startup. About 1.7 lakh jobs were created by recognised startups in the 2020-2021 period alone”.
