New Delhi: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming movie ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is one of the most awaited movies of this year. Earlier today, the lead actress of the film, Alia Bhatt, shared the poster of the biographical crime film and one cannot ignore the striking resemblance with Gangubai Kothewali.
Recently, the makers of ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ released the official teaser of this upcoming biographical drama. Alia Bhatt can be seen in a never-seen-avatar before. Her fierce yet elegant way to portray the character grabbed all the attention. Alia’s matriarchal illustration of the ‘Chand of Kamathipura’ is what the ‘Highway’ actress nailed with perfection.
The makers of the upcoming Sanjay Leela Bhansali film also announced the release date of the movie. The movie will hit the screens on July 30, 2021.
Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film has been produced by the ‘Bajirao Mastani’ director and Dr. Jayantilal Gada (Pen Studios).
The plot of ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ revolves around the life of a young girl who was sold into prostitution and her journey towards becoming the madam of a brothel in Kamathipura.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt will be working for the first time ever on this project. This film is based on the life of Gangubai Kothewali, who was a sex worker and was considered as the madam of a brothel in Kamathipura. Based on a chapter of Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ also stars Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz and Seema Pahwa in supporting roles.
Other than these actors, this upcoming biographical crime drama will witness Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi and Huma Qureshi playing cameo roles.
Meanwhile, other than ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, Alia Bhatt also has ‘RRR’ and ‘Brahmastra’ in her kitty.
