The ICC’s Covid-19 regulations states that a team can be warned twice for using saliva per innings, and further use of it will result in a 5-run penalty to the batting side. Whenever saliva is applied to the ball, the umpires have to clean it before play resumes.
Ben Stokes accidentally applied saliva on the ball in the opening day of the ongoing day-night third Test against India in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
