Delhi courtroom upholds order for 2-year jail to AAP MLA Somnath Bharti for assaulting security staff at AIIMS

A Delhi courtroom Tuesday upheld an order sentencing AAP MLA Somnath Bharti to 2 years in jail for assaulting the AIIMS security staff in a case registered in 2016. After the pronouncement of the order, Bharti was taken into custody, a lawyer stated.

A Justice of the Peace courtroom had in January sentenced him to 2 years in jail.

Special Judge Vikas Dhull partly dismissed Bharti’s attraction and convicted him for the offences beneath sections 147 (rioting) learn with 149 (illegal meeting) of IPC and beneath part 3 (mischief inflicting injury to public property) of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.

The courtroom, nonetheless, put aside his conviction beneath sections 323 (voluntarily inflicting damage), 353 (assault or use of felony drive to discourage public servant from discharge of his obligation) learn with part 149 of IPC.

In January, Bharti was granted bail to allow him to file an attraction earlier than the excessive courtroom towards his conviction in the case and jail time period.
