Adelaide Strikers have introduced Matthew Short as their new skipper ahead of the upcoming Big Bash League season 13. Short has taken over from Travis Head, who was beforehand main Strikers. Interestingly, Short led Strikers within the final season and racked up an attention-grabbing efficiency at a person stage.
The star batting allrounder notched up 458 runs and snared 11 wickets within the 2022-23 season of the marquee event. His spectacular show within the season helped him make his T20I and ODI debut for Australia and he’s one of the front-runners to assert a spot in Australia’s squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 within the USA and the West Indies.
Short, 28, is “excited” and feels honoured to be given the duty.
“Adelaide and the Strikers has been my summer season residence for 5 years now, I really like town and the membership so to be named captain of the Strikers is an actual honour. I actually loved the little style of captaincy I received final season and I’m excited to place my full consideration to it in BBL|13.
“I think we’ve got a really great list this season and I can’t wait to see what we can do together, starting on Saturday night in front of our home fans,” Short mentioned.
Head Coach of Strikers, Jason Gillespie talked about that the workforce administration was pretty impressed with Short as a frontrunner within the earlier version and therefore he was the “standout choice” because the chief.
“Matt was a standout choice to take on the captaincy at the Adelaide Strikers and we are thrilled to announce him as our sixth captain. When he stepped up last year we were very impressed with his leadership and we are looking forward to seeing him grow further into the role,” Gillespie mentioned.
