Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ravindra Choubey had tabled the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Members Salary, Allowance and Pension (Amendment) Bill 2023 on Monday, which was taken up for dialogue on Wednesday.
That bill additionally proposes to present phone and orderly allowances to former MLAs. It was handed with a voice vote. According to the bill, the pension of former MLAs can be elevated from Rs 35,000 to Rs 58,300.
Apart from this, each former legislator may even be entitled to get a further pension of Rs 1,000 monthly for each one yr after his/her first tenure of membership (extra tenure greater than 5 years), the bill said.
As per the bill, every incumbent member can be entitled to get an allowance of Rs 10 lakh per yr for railway/air journey as a substitute of the present Rs 8 lakh per yr. Similarly, this allowance can be elevated from Rs 4 lakh per yr to Rs 5 lakh per yr for former MLAs, it stated.
Besides this, former MLAs can be entitled to get phone allowance and orderly allowance of Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively, it said.
According to officers, earlier there was no provision of phone and orderly allowances for former legislators. The increase in pension and allowances is probably going to put a further annual burden of round Rs 16.
96 crore on the state exchequer, they stated.
The state Assembly had handed payments to hike the salaries of the chief minister, speaker, ministers and MLAs in July final yr, and the transfer had precipitated an annual burden of Rs 6.81 crore to the state exchequer.
The Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly has 90 members.
